Laura Kimpton Debuts Two New Pieces at Burning Man 2016

@EARTH#HOME and Magic, two new works by artist Laura Kimpton, are on view at the Burning Man festival from August 28 - September 5, 2016. The installations mark Kimpton’s tenth year of participating at Burning Man, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary.@EARTH#HOME and Magic, both part of Kimpton’s Monumental WordSeries, are installed on the Playa, Black Rock’s dry desert lake. The 12’x4’x6’ letters and symbols are made of industrial steel with Kimpton’s signature bird cutouts. 

@EARTH#HOME reminds festival participants that the Earth is their home and that Burning Man is a homecoming like no other. The words surround a tree from Kimpton’sCeltic Forest series forming a 150’ x 150’ square. The tree, with its nightly flames, will illuminate and purify the space and symbolize Arwen, a Celtic concept of enlightenment, inspiration, and total unification of polarities. The fire also acts like a beacon, calling people to come together and connect inside of the installation.

Kimpton’s Magic was commissioned for a development project called Magic City, in honor of Miami’s nickname, by Dragon Global private equity firm founder Bob Zangrillo and his business partner Tony Cho. The piece will later be installed in a sculpture garden in Miami with other Burning Man art.
